Bong County District #5 Representative, Eugine J.M. Kollie, has called for the immediate reinstatement of suspended workers at Phebe Hospital, urging the Civil Service Agency (CSA) to reconsider its decision and prioritize dialogue over disciplinary action.
The lawmaker made the statement on Thursday, February 26, 2026, when he visited the Phebe Hospital compound in Suakoko District to engage with health workers who recently staged a protest and go-slow action.
The workers have raised concerns about deteriorating infrastructure, insufficient medical supplies, and difficult working conditions which they said are undermining effective healthcare delivery.
Addressing the aggrieved staff, Rep. Kollie described their protest as a legitimate call for reform rather than an act of defiance. He emphasized that the workers’ concerns reflect the broader challenges facing the healthcare sector in Bong County and across Liberia.
“If our people decided to go slow because of the current condition of the hospital, it means they are standing for better healthcare services for our citizens,” Kollie stated during the engagement.
However, he argued that punitive measures could worsen tensions and disrupt essential medical services. He appealed directly to CSA Director General Josiah Joekai to review the suspensions and work toward an amicable resolution. According to him, supporting healthcare workers is crucial to strengthening public confidence in the health system.
He noted that improving conditions at Phebe Hospital would ultimately enhance service delivery and benefit thousands of residents who rely on the facility.
In addition to his advocacy, Rep. Kollie announced plans to provide practical support to the hospital.
He disclosed that arrangements are underway to distribute medical tents and essential supplies within the coming days to ease operational challenges. Further assistance is also expected to extend to surrounding clinics.
The situation at Phebe Hospital continues to attract public attention, with many calling for swift intervention to restore stability and ensure uninterrupted healthcare services in Bong County.
