Profiling Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, 66

On Monday, June 30, 2025, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai nominated Associate Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay as the next Chief Justice to replace the soon-to-retire Chief Justice, Her Honor, Sie-A-Nyene Gyapay Yuoh who turned 70 on June 26, 2025.

Though Justice Gbeisay’s nomination is pending confirmation by the Senate, it was made in accordance with Article 54 (c) of the 1986 Constitution. The Article grants the president the full authority to appoint the chief justice, associate justices and judges of subordinate courts.

Additionally, Gbeisay’s nomination aligns with Article 72 (b) of the Constitution, which mandates retirement of justices upon reaching the age of 70.

Who is Justice Gbeisay?

Born on May 3, 1959, in Gompa City, Nimba County, Associate Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay is a 1979 alumnus of the Dolo Memorial High School in Sanniquellie City.

He’s married with a number of children.

Justice Gbeissay holds a “B” Certificate in Language Art and Social Studies from the Kakata Rural Teachers’ Training Institute (KRTTI) in 1983.

He also holds a Bachelor of Art (B.A.) Degree in Public Administration in 1988 from the University of Liberia (UL). He obtained a Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) from the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law in 1998-UL.
