The National AIDS Commission of Liberia has carried out a one-day working visit to the compound of Phebe Hospital in Suakoko, Bong County, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen HIV/AIDS response services across the country.
The visit brought together health officials, hospital administrators, and Commission representatives to assess the delivery of HIV-related healthcare services at key medical facilities in the county.
Speaking during the engagement, the Chairperson of the National AIDS Commission, Dr. Cecelia J. Nuta, said the visit was aimed at gathering first-hand information on how HIV/AIDS services are being implemented at both Phebe Hospital and C.B. Dunbar Comprehensive Hospital.
She explained that the assessment will help the Commission identify operational gaps, challenges, and achievements within the HIV response system, especially in rural health settings.
Dr. Nuta further noted that special attention is being given to the Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) centers, where patients living with HIV/AIDS receive treatment, care, and support services.
“We are engaging with staff to better understand the treatment and care services being provided to people living with HIV/AIDS at both health facilities,” she stated.
The National AIDS Commission of Liberia continues to play a key role in coordinating the national HIV/AIDS response by linking government institutions, development partners, and civil society organizations.
The Commission also works to reduce stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS while promoting access to quality healthcare services nationwide.
The Bong County Health Officer, the Medical Director of Phebe Hospital, and Commissioners of the National AIDS Commission were present and actively participated in the discussions held during the visit.
The assessment visit is expected to contribute to improved coordination, stronger health systems, and enhanced HIV/AIDS service delivery in Bong County and across Liberia.
