Former Bong County Electoral District #1 candidate Dennis Garsinii, has launched a criticism of MNG Gold Liberia.
Garsinii accused the mining company of neglecting its responsibility to reconstruct the Nayblehn Bridge in Kokoyah Statutory District after damaging the structure, and having failed to honor promises made to local residents. Garsinii alleged that the bridge, located near Botota, was severely damaged in 2023, when one of MNG Gold’s heavy-duty machines reportedly fell into it.
The incident rendered the bridge unsafe, and disrupted transportation for residents and commuters, who depend on the route for their daily activities.
He said, following the incident, MNG Gold erected a temporary crossing path, and assured community members that a permanent bridge would be constructed by January, 2024.
However, more than two years after the reported damage, Garsinii claims that the company has failed to fulfill that commitment. “MNG Gold damaged the bridge, installed a temporary structure, and promised to build a permanent replacement, but that promise has been broken. The people of Kokoyah continue to suffer while the company remains silent.”
Garsinii further accused the mining giant of neglecting its obligations to maintain the road network linking its operational areas through Botota, Gbecohn and surrounding communities to Gbarnga. He argued that the deteriorating condition of roads, and the unresolved bridge situation, have affected the movement of people and goods in the district.
For that reason, Garsinii claimed that residents have faced increasing transportation difficulties, while businesses and traders continue to experience setbacks.
He said, the situation has also complicated access to schools, health facilities and local markets.
Garsinii disclosed how he personally visited the Nayblehn Bridge on May 30, 2026, where he inspected the site and documented an “evidence of MNG Gold’s failure to deliver on its promise.” Meanwhile, frustration continues to grow among residents, who have repeatedly raised concerns about the condition of roads and bridges in the area.
Many of the locals argue that communities continue to bear the impact of mining activities, while key development commitments remain unfulfilled.
As public criticism intensifies, MNG Gold has yet to publicly respond to the latest allegations surrounding the Nayblehn Bridge controversy.
