General renovation work is underway at the Martha Tubman Stadium in Harper, Maryland County.
The renovation is done ahead of this year’s National County Sports Meet, the official host ground for Group ‘A’ comprising Maryland, River Cess, River Gee and Grand Kru counties.
‘County Meet’ is Liberia’s most traditional sporting showpiece that brings together talented young ones from the 15 counties.
Maryland County Sports and Athletics Commission (MSAC) chair, Gabriel Tarpeh, confirmed the ongoing renovation work.
Tarpeh: “Although the upgrade began later than planned, the interventions will significantly improve the stadium’s outward appearance, and inward function before the tournament begins.
The renovation effort is being driven by support from residents, local authorities and several organizations that are committed to see Maryland delivers a standard host venue for the competition.
Key areas being renovated are the stadium wings, coaches’ standing and technical boxes, seating areas for match commissioners, goalposts on both ends of the pitch.
There are additional structural fixes, and aesthetic improvements across the facility.
Though, the total cost of the renovation remains undisclosed, MSAC says the financial detail will be officially revealed upon completion.
The upgrades are expected to position the county to successfully welcome visiting teams and fans from across Group ‘A’ when the biggest sporting festival begins.
