LNRCS Strengthens Community Empowerment

-In Southeastern Liberia

The Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) continues to advance its community empowerment efforts across Southeastern Liberia through the establishment of Community Information Centers under the GIRL Project.

This initiative aims to enhance community preparedness and resilience by providing vital and timely information to residents—especially during emergencies and disasters.

Recently, the LNRCS completed the setup of Community Information Centers in Sinoe, Grand Kru, and River Gee Counties, with the first center officially established in Nrokwia Community, River Gee County.

Each center is equipped with essential communication tools, including solar lights, horn speakers, a mixer, amplifier, and microphones. These resources will enable trained members of the Community-Based Action Teams (CBATs) to effectively disseminate life-saving information, particularly on early warning and early action.

Beyond their emergency and health functions, the centers will also serve as hubs for promoting moral values, peacebuilding, and community learning. They will provide a space where residents can share stories, ideas, and lessons that foster unity and social cohesion.

The successful establishment of these centers was made possible through the generous support of the Swedish Embassy and the Swedish Red Cross, whose partnership has been instrumental in strengthening community resilience and access to information.

By working together with communities, the Liberia National Red Cross Society and its partners aim to build a safer, better-prepared, and more informed society—one capable of responding swiftly and effectively to challenges and emergencies.
