The Liberia National Police (LNP) River Gee Detachment, has officially launched a road safety initiative.

The initiative is launched with the aim to promote responsible driving, reducing traffic accidents, and ensuring public safety.

The campaign, which seeks the full cooperation of residents, focuses on strict adherence to traffic regulations as a key strategy in curbing the growing number of road-related incidents in the southeast.

LNP said, the initiative involves a combination of public awareness campaigns, community outreach programs, and increased enforcement of traffic laws.

At the launch, River Gee County Police Commander, Theophilus Togba, underscored the importance of road discipline.

Togba urged drivers to prioritize the use of seat belts to avoid reckless behavior behind the wheel.

He said educating motorists and pedestrians was necessary to foster a culture of safety on the roads.

“Road safety is not just about enforcement; it is about saving lives. By engaging the public directly, we hope to build a strong partnership that ensures everyone understands their role and responsibility,” Togba said.

As part of the campaign, LNP officers are expected to set up checkpoints, distribute educational materials, and organize community workshops that would highlight aspects of road safety.

The approach, according to police authorities, is designed, not only to enforce traffic laws, but also to encourage collective responsibility among road users.

Local leaders have welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that it will significantly reduce accidents, and promote a safer environment for both drivers and pedestrians in the county.
