LDEA Tracks More Drug Peddlers –G/Cape Mt. Sinoe, G/Gedeh Top Lists

Agents of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), assigned across the country went into action in recent days resulting to the arrest of more illegal substances peddlers.

Peddlers are people who sell illegal drugs or illicit goods from door-to-door under the cover of darkness or in secret.

LDEA says of such arrests, Grand Gedeh, Grand Cape Mount, particularly at the Bo-Waterside Port of Entry and Sinoe countries top the arrest listings.

In Grand Gedeh County, for example, the LDEA County Detachment arrested a man in connection with illegal drug possession and trafficking.

The suspect, Dester Bowen, also known as Egcar, was apprehended on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at around 7:30 p.m. in Bowen Quarter Community.

According to the LDEA, Bowen was found in possession of 18 wraps of kush, 116 wraps of heroin and half a tube of cocaine.

 LDEA says there are well over 18,000 strains of known cannabis, ultimately almost all of them come back to a certain core trio of strain families, including Kush, Haze, and Skunk.

The Hindu Kush mountain range, mainly used in Liberia, is a land of soaring mountains, rivers, and remote villages.

 

The seized drugs have a combined street value of US$617 and L$117,230.

Following an investigation, Bowen was formally charged with unlicensed possession of controlled drugs, illicit trafficking, and distribution of controlled substances. Authorities there have since forwarded him to court, where he awaits trial.

In another development, the entity reported that in a targeted early-morning operation, it officers in Sinoe County arrested a suspected drug peddlers and confiscated a quantity of illegal narcotics in Japuken Town.  

Acting on intelligence, LDEA agents executed a search warrant at the residence of Joseph Stalwart, a 45-year-old Liberian national, on Tuesday, March 25, at approximately 7:00 a.m.

The operation accordingly led to the discovery of a quarter plate of high-grade marijuana, with an estimated street value of US$75 (about L$14,250).  

Stalwart, accused of involvement in the sale and distribution of illegal substances, was immediately taken into custody and transported to Greenville, the capital for further investigation.

Following interrogation, he was formally charged under Section 14:85 of the Amended Drug Law of Liberia, which prohibits the illegal possession and sale of narcotics.  

The suspect has since been handed over to the judicial system for prosecution, with authorities emphasizing a commitment to a swift trial.

Meanwhile, LDEA made a similar arrest at the Bo-Waterside port of entry in Grand Cape Mount County.

The suspect, who had placed a huge quantity of the illegal substances in a car tail light, was identified as a notorious Nigerian National residing in the country.

  The Nigerian case remains under investigation.

Meanwhile, the agency Director-General, Anthony K. Souh, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to cracking down on drug-related crimes and ensuring that traffickers face justice.

The agency has assured the public that it will continue to pursue those involved in the illegal drug trade until the fight succeed with the country being declared a drug-free.
