Kolubah Lawyers Appeal To Full Bunch

Lawyers representing Yekeh Y. Kolubah have excepted to the ruling by Supreme Court Justice in Chambers, Yussif D. Kaba against their client.

Kolubah’s defense team headed by Jonathan Massaquoi said, they have meanwhile, filed an appeal challenging Justice Kaba’s decision before the full bench of the Supreme Court.

Justice Kaba ruled against Yekeh Kolubah, former Montserrado County District #10 Representative in his Bill of Information case.

The case followed Kolubah’s legal battle with the House of Representatives.

Justice Kaba on Wednesday, May 20, held that the House of Representatives did not act in violation of the law in the proceedings that led to Kolubah’s expulsion from the Lower House.

The ruling is seen as a “temporary victory” for the leadership of the House of Representatives, which expelled Kolubah.

Kolubah was ejected having violated House’s rules, and “undermined national interest” through comments made regarding the Liberia/Guinea border dispute.

Cllr. Massaquoi told reporters that the Justice Kaba erred in his interpretation of both the law and the constitutional protections afforded lawmakers.

The controversy stemmed from statements Kolubah made during discussions surrounding the disputed Liberia/Guinea border region in Lofa County. Kolubah had suggested that portions of the contested territory belonged to Guinea.

The remarks sparked outrage within the House to the extent that some of Kolubah’s fellow lawmakers accused him of making statements inconsistent with his oath to protect Liberia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Subsequently, the House Rules, Order and Administration Committee initiated proceedings against him, eventually leading to his expulsion.

Kolubah lawyers rejected his ejection as “unconstitutional and politically motivated.”

In his Bill of Information filed before the Supreme Court, Kolubah argued that the House leadership violated his constitutional rights and ignored judicial authority during the disciplinary process.

While the case is still pending, latest report confirmed that Kolubah has left the country to “visit is family” in Ghana.
