Police in Monrovia have arrested John Dou, the security advisor to Kapao Secure Liberia.
John Dou was arrested by some security-minded residents on Newport Street with a single-barrel gun.
The gun was reportedly concealed in the suspect ‘come along’ private bag when the residents spotted it.
Kapao Secure Liberia, is a community neighborhood watch group.
The incident occurred on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
He told Police at the Metro 1 Deport in Central Monrovia, where he is currently being detained, that he purchased the firearm from Karnplay, Nimba County, to protect himself.
He added: “My boss is aware of the single-barrel gun.”
Duo said he and the head of Kapao Secure Liberia usually patrol with the gun at night.
This is not the first incident. Several of the group members in possession of legitimate identification cards, have been arrested with either firearm and security uniforms belonging to the Police, and the Drug Enforcement Agency.
