Tensions have rapidly escalated in Jorquelleh District #2, Bong County, as a growing dispute over the district’s youth elections threatens to plunge the community into deeper division ahead of the scheduled May 27, 2026, polls.
In a bold and uncompromising stance, the District Commissioner, David C. Karchue, has declared that the elections will proceed “by all means necessary,” despite mounting objections and allegations of constitutional violations from sections of the outgoing youth leadership.
Karchue argued that the district can no longer remain without “legitimate youth leadership.”
He insisted that the tenure of former youth president, Flomo Getalah, has officially expired, thereby leaving a dangerous leadership vacuum in the district.
Karchue’s comments come amid increasing public disagreements over the credibility and legality of the elections process, with critics accusing local authorities of attempting to force through a controversial poll without proper consultation.
Karchue also warned individuals “plotting to disrupt the election process.” He cautioned that the people of the district would resist any attempt to derail the exercise.
He said, several efforts were made to engage the outgoing youth leadership in organizing a smooth transition, and credible elections process, but those efforts were repeatedly “ignored and frustrated.” Getalah has fiercely rejected the entire process, branding the elections commission established to oversee the polls as “illegitimate and unconstitutional.”
He accused local authorities of deliberately bypassing the district youth constitution, which he said, clearly mandates that the president, in consultation with his team, must appoint members of the elections commission. Getalah said, no such consultation ever took place.
He described the process as a dangerous violation of democratic principles and youth governance standards. Getalah has meanwhile, called on all aspirants and stakeholders to boycott an “illegal and politically manipulated elections process.”
He warned that participating in the polls could undermine the credibility of future youth leadership in the district.
The growing standoff has now created serious uncertainty across Jorquelleh, with many residents fearing that the already heated situation could spiral further if urgent dialogue and intervention are not pursued before election day.
