Several Drowned In Borbor River

Recent reports of residents drowning in the Dorbor River in Grand Kru County are said to have claimed the attention of officers of the National Police assigned in the county.

Henceforth, the police are said to have instituted measures that would enhance security patrol, particularly at the Dorbor River crossing point.

 According to the report, police is acting in response to concerns of increased in the drowning incidents at the river.

“This announcement comes on the heels of reported drowning cases in June, 2025, alone, thus causing widespread alarm in the county,” police told the locals.

The Dorbor River crossing is a vital pathway that connects Bolloh New Town with Greenville, Sinoe County. It also serves as a crucial route for residents, but recent events have raised significant safety concerns.

Police Commander Clement Barlatt, has reported the increase in the drowning cases.

Barlatt said, the situation is associated with the rising water tide due to the seasonal rains, which have made the river ‘risky for crossing.’

In his statement on a local radio talk-show via telephone, Barlatt, detailed the new security measures put into place to ensure the safety of residents.

“Starting immediately, we will deploy additional officers to closely monitor this crossing point. We will also educate community members about the danger of crossing the river during high water levels, and provide alternative travel advisory to the locals,” Barllatt stated.

In just the month of June, police have reported at least three drowning cases involving one year-six-months old identified as Sammy Karter. The late child reportedly got drown in the Dorbor River on June 2, 2025.

On Thursday, June 20, police recorded another drowning incident involving a 33-year-old Duyen Sumo, (male).

Another incident of drowning was reported on the June 25. This time, it involved a 49-year-old victim identified as Sampson Walker. The late Walker was residing in Buah, but got drowned on the Dorbor River, while crossing along with Cooper Gaye. Gaye too is residing in Klaydeepa.

It can be recalled that eyes counts in the Dorbor area reported drowning incident on Sunday, October 27, 2024, when 19-year-old pregnant woman, Precious Kantan, and Joanna Targbe, age 16, drowned in the same river while crossing from Putu Town to Nyankunpo.

The two victims were returning after watching a local football match.

A 39-year-old, Moses William, alias ZB, got drowned in the river under similar circumstances when the rope attached to the floater snatched off his hands by a torrential current.

The Dorbor River is reported to be a major threat of economic growth and lives of inhabitants, especially residents of Nyankunpo Town, located at the left bank of the Dorbor River in Bolloh Statutory Districts.

Meanwhile, police, along with the locals, are said to have designated a new crossing point to avoid future disaster.
