HoR Passes Agro Agreement

Members of the House of Representative (HoR) on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, passed into law, subsequently sent to the senate for concordance a US$10 million financing loan.
The loan seeks to strengthen the agriculture sector of the country.
The Agro Industrial Processing zone financing agreement between the Opec Fund for international development, and the country, was recently submitted to the House by the executive.
The Agreement seeks to ratify a US$10 million loan to boost the agriculture sector through the soon-to-be build Special Agro Industrial Processing Zone.
The plant will be in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County to add value to the sector through job creation and increase tree corps growth.
Following the passage of the instrument, the Houses’ Committee Chair on Agriculture, and Grand Bassa County District #4 Lawmaker, Alfred Flomo, expressed joy over the passage.
Flomo added: “The Houses’ decision to ratify the loan has proven government’s readiness to improve the lives of the people through agriculture.
He said, the passage of the Agreement will also buttress government’s effort through jobs creation, thus encouraging Liberians to venture into agriculture, which is another form of generating income for livelihood.
“Recently, as chair on the Houses’ Committee on Agriculture, I was overwhelm to be a part of the presentation of the report that the House passed into law. If concord by the senate, it will encourage and or attract investors to the agriculture sector, thereby creating job opportunities for all, especially the youth, who are vulnerable to society,” Rep. Flomo said.
He said, gone at the days when the country was depending on the attractive resources or industries to create jobs or contribute to the national budget.
Flomo said, the loan also comes with lots of benefits to change the dynamic of the economy from attractive to agriculture.
