Taiwan Saye Gongloe, a lawyer by profession, has sharply reacted, and also condemned corruption allegations of campaign financing against him.
Gongloe described the allegation as a statement that lacks “factual basis from expelled elements.”
A renowned Liberian human rights lawyer, is also the political leader of Liberia People’s Party (LPP). Recently, some ‘expelled members’ of the LPP accused Cllr. Gongloe, alias TSG, of refusing to provide a campaign financing report. They further alleged that monies that were donated to the party and given to Cllr. Gongloe, were squandered by him, without making a report to the party.
While addressing the concerned at the Center for the Exchange of Intellectual Opinion on Carey Street in Monrovia, on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Gongloe confirmed receiving many concerns regarding the allegation, “but I have refused to speak, however, it is about time that I addressed the lies and fabrication parading and spewed from some expelled youth leaders.”
According to Gongloe, the Youth League of the LPP and the National Executive Committee, has also addressed the matter and taken decisions against those individuals spreading the falsehood.
“It is important that I address my long-standing integrity.”
Gongloe said, most of the external and internal campaign financing he received, came from his friends, himself and his wife.
“When a candidate of a political party participate in campaign, and go into electoral activities, at the end of the campaign period, the National Elections Commission (NEC), has a period for political party to submit a comprehensive campaign report.” Gongloe said the LPP did exactly per the NEC law, specifically on campaign financing.
Cllr. Gongloe: “It is very disappointing that some of the young people, who are accusing me now, when they are given finance to run an errant, they would return without submitting a financial expenditure report.”
“The person that you are talking about, I am sure it is Abraham Kollie. That boy was like my son in the law office. He has been saying that, and it has not gained attraction. Somebody works for their reputation and is well-known, you cannot easily damage the reputation with falsehood. Now, he is alleging that I was involved into some campaign financing corruption. I want to ask; did he tell you how much the money is? Also, people have been asking him if he had been paying due to the party, and he had refused to address those concerns. That statement has no factual basis. LPP has a branch in America, and so, if the party knows of such, they will take action. We did not collect any cent and did not report it. All I can say, we had a successful political campaign with the little we had.” Gongloe told the gathering with his usual smile.
According to him, those who made that allegation, were suspended by the Executive Committee of the Party. He called on them to turn themselves over for investigation, consequently, since he refused to go for the investigation, the party through the EC expelled him.
