Dr. Kardiker Rex Dahn has called for the dismissal of Youth and Sports Deputy Minister, J. Bryant McGill dismissed with immediate in the wake of a rape allegation against a 14-year old girl.
Dr. Dahn call came after President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has suspended the accused until he’s vindicated from the allegation.
“McGill should be dismissed, arrested and prosecuted Over his alleged sexual abuse of a minor,” Dr. Dahn said in a statement he recently issued.
Dr. Dahn, a Liberian with residence in the U.S., previously served as deputy education minister for planning, research and development. He was later appointed as deputy director-general at the National Commission on Higher Education.
“I, Dr. Kadiker Rex Dahn, am deeply disturbed and morally compelled to speak for the first time against a presidential appointee whose conduct has brought serious disgrace to the government and to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.”
According to Dr. Dahn, the alleged sexual abuse of a 14-year-old girl by J. Bryant McGill, is not just a scandal, “but a major crime; a national embarrassment and a betrayal of public trust.”
“This is not politics; this is not gossip, because this is a crime, a direct attack on the dignity of a child, and the conscience of our nation.”
Political observers described Dr. Dahn’s call as in the right direction, but a little late, “because, McGill has reportedly fled the country, leaving his victim at the determination of God.”
“How can a deputy minister, appointed to mentor and inspire country’s youth, turn into a predator, using government office, money, and influence to exploit small children?” Dr. Dahn rhetorically asked.
“Let us call him what he has made of himself: Predator and sexual offender; committing statutory rape and destroying a young girl’s innocence.”
He meanwhile accused McGill of being an abuser of power, who was misusing public office and resources to commit heinous acts against young girls.
“National disgrace, dragged the ministry the entire government into shame; a threat to society, proved dangerous to every Liberian child, mainly the females. I strongly believe that McGill has committed a major, non-bailable crime. He must be immediately fired, not merely suspended. His actions are far beyond suspension; he should already be behind bars, in handcuffs, awaiting full prosecution under the laws.
To shield him, because of politics, family ties, or social connections is to protect a predator and sacrifice the safety of Liberia’s children.”
MEANWHHILE, Dr. Dahn has demanded an immediate dismissal of McGill; his immediate arrest, detention, and prosecution without delay; full justice and protection for the victim and her family.
He added: “Liberia’s children are not for sale, neither our daughters are toys for predators in power. The law must stand above politics, friendship and family. The future of our children, the dignity of the government, and the soul of our nation demand decisive action and justice now.”
