Crisis has engulfed the Bong County Community Radio Network (BOCORNET), the umbrella body representing community radio stations in the county.
The situation has resulted into leadership predicament after concerned members announced the impeachment of the organization’s three highest-ranking officials.
The impeached officials are accused of financial misconduct, constitutional violations and a complete collapse of responsible leadership.
The action targets BOCORNET President Samuel Dorweh, Vice President Uriah Mitchell, and General Secretary Winston Polornore.
A resolution member stations issued, explained that the officials were removed when they violated multiple provisions of the organization’s amended Constitution adopted on April 12, 2025.
The concerned members accused the leadership of having turned the organization away from its constitutional mandate through shady authorized financial dealings, poor governance and a persistent failure to account to the membership.
Among the most serious allegations is the reported failure to provide a financial accounting for US$12,000 received from the county administration.
The members claimed the leadership neither informed the general assembly about the funds, nor presented any expenditure report to the membership or county authorities.
The statement further alleged that organizational funds were withdrawn, and spent without the approval of the general assembly, while a 2025 workshop was reportedly organized without the knowledge or authorization of member stations.
Members also accused the leadership of refusing to convene the general assembly following their election, despite constitutional requirements to do so.
According to the impeachment resolution, the affected officials also failed to establish mandatory standing committees, neglected to develop an annual operational plan, failed to maintain an updated database of member stations, and allegedly kept members in the dark about major decisions affecting the network.
The concerned members argued that these failures rendered BOCORNET ineffective and inactive, undermining its credibility as the voice of community radio institutions in the county.
As part of the impeachment resolution, the three affected officials have been given a two-month ultimatum to produce a full financial report, and surrender all BOCORNET properties and documents in their possession.
The members warned that legal proceedings could follow should the officials failed to comply.
The group has also called on the county administration, development partners, civil society organizations, and all stakeholders to suspend official engagement with the impeached officials in matters relating to BOCORNET until the leadership dispute is resolved.
The impeached officials had not responded to the allegations at the time this story was published, and the claims remain allegations that have not been tested in court.
