The municipal development of Arthington City in Lower Montserrado County, is frail and hinder by bad roads, business and trade, coupled with ineffective internet service.

These essential factors of development have rendered the communities isolated, inaccessible and vulnerable for urban dwellers.

Meanwhile, life in Central Arthington seems unbearable, due to limited developments to at least attract investments to the growth of the city.

The unfortunate living condition has made it difficult for assigned employees of diverse government functionaries to move in the rural area with their families to stay.

The Chairperson of Community A-1940 in central Arthington, Williams Wright said, the deplorable roads network largely contributes to the low-income state of survival that exists among the residents.

Mr. Wright clarified that charcoal burning is the main source of income to many households.

“Life,” according to Wright, “is not what the people outside of the country think it is with Arthington, Life here is unbearable.

Imagine a man with a family size of about five gets a mark of L$500 daily. Such a man does not have enough to feed his family.”

He called for the rehabilitation of existing farm- to-market roads, which Wright claimed, will improve productivity and increase income generation for residents.

Wright: “Farmers in the five different clans of Arthington will be encouraged to engage into diverse agricultural activities to better their lives if the road networks are reconditioned.”

Young people riding motorbike nation-wide generates income. This is the most favorable form of transportation to commute to and from Arthington with the exception of a single pickup- in used to haul charcoal across the St. Paul Bridge in Kuwait and Duala general markets on the Bushrod Island, outside Monrovia.

Meanwhile, Mr. Wright has informed The Inprofile Daily newspaper that the owner of the only transport vehicle does not go there until a charter is arranged by individuals with consignment of charcoal above 50 bags.

In spite of the prevailing condition of the city’s location, Arthington continues to experience a low crime rate and in most cases, minor offenses.

Arthington was established in 1869 as a settlement of freed slaves to the counntry following the abolition of slavery in the Americas during the early 1800s.

The local authority is duly structured and runs its city council administration at the head of the current City Mayor, Romeo R. Clarke.

The city administrative compound comprises of the City Hall, Court House, a Police Station, and an Orange-Liberia GSM Telecommunication Tower. Other facilities include the only government public junior high school; a clinic with a newly built annex for the purpose of a maternal waiting home expected to be dedicated anytime soon.
