Health authorities in Monrovia are being overwhelmed with the infiltration of quacks that are on the killing spree of their patients.
One of such incident occurred on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, when a fake doctor, identified as Abraham Kamara, reportedly performed an unauthorized surgery that resulted in the death of 39-year woman.
Meanwhile, report says security officers are helping health authorities as they launched a manhunt for Abraham Kamara, a quack who performed an unauthorized surgery that resulted in the death of Dorcas Vondeh, 39.
The fake doctor has also been identified as the operator of ABC Clinic in Gardnersville, outside Monrovia.
He is now accused of medical malpractice and fraud after conducting a “fibroid removal procedure” without the necessary qualifications to do so.
What is fibroid?
A medical word for fibroid is fibromyalgia. It is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain and spinal cord process painful and non-painful signals.
Also known as fibrositis (stomach growth), mainly in women, is a disorder that affects muscle and soft tissue characterized by chronic muscle pain, tenderness, fatigue and sleep disturbances.
In Liberia, we have so far learned of doctors John Mulubah and Francis Kateh as specialists of the procedure.
While Kamara remains on the run, report of similar incident comes just a day after Sam Wolobah, an Operating Room Technician assigned at the Lofa Medic Services was arrested in Monrovia for impersonating as a medical doctor.
He had performed surgery that resulted in the death of a 30-year old Samuel P. Kollie.
This incident occurred on Monday, March 24 in the Neezoe Community, outside Monrovia.
In the latest incident, a press release the Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC) issued on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, said the unauthorized surgery took place on March 16, 2025.
Therefore, a formal complaint filed by Elbert Law Firm on behalf of the deceased’s family details how Kamara convinced Vondeh that he was a ‘qualified medical’ professional.
Medical records from Redemption Hospital in New Kru Town confirmed that Madam Vondeh had previously been advised to seek surgery from a certified specialist, but instead, she proceeded at ABC Clinic, believing Kamara’s false claims.
In the aftermath of the procedure, Madam Vondeh had complained of complications just minutes after the operation.
Investigations revealed that Kamara failed to stabilize her and critical medical protocols were ignored before and during the surgery.
Meanwhile, crack of the case has sparked outrage as further reports indicate that the ABC Clinic was previously been shut down for non-compliance with health regulations.
The Clinical and Research Director at LMDC Joseph Colmah said, despite an earlier official closure notice, the facility continued to operate “illegally for two years without certification.”
After sensing that Madam Vondeh has died, Kamara fled and remains on the run, the release said.
Kamara faces multiple charges, including fraud, practicing medicine without a license and medical negligence resulting in the death of a young woman.
Health authorities have therefore called on the public to assist in the location of Kamara.
“We are calling on all citizens to help bring this individual to justice. No one should suffer at the hands of unqualified practitioners,” said James Emmanuel D. Cole, Jr., LMDC’s Bureau of Communications/Public Relations Officer.
