By Domingo Dargbeh

The Association of African Maritime Administrations (AAMA) said it is to convene its 8th Conference from September 30, to October 3, 2025, at the Ellen Sirleaf Johnson Ministerial complex in Cong Town.

‎Liberia Permanent Representative to International Maritime Organization, Robert Wilmot Kpadeh, made the disclosure to a team of Journalists in Congo Town on Tuesday, September, 23, 2025.

Kpadeh said the upcoming event aims to address significant progress with focus on the pressing challenges and seizing opportunities within Africa’s maritime sector.

The scheduled conference comes amidst rapid technological advancements, and the critical needs for sustainable development.

‎Kpadeh: “The conference will bring together maritime leaders, policymakers and stakeholders from across the continent to engage in strategic discussions to enhance safety, security and environmental protection in maritime activities.

The Monrovia conference follows the resolutions established during the 7th AAMA Conference and General Assembly.

The 7th conference was held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in 2024.

‎Mr. Kpadeh said the conference will serve, not only as a platform for knowledge sharing, but also as a catalyst for actionable change.

‎”This year, our goal is to move beyond mere information exchanges. We aim to develop actionable roadmaps that align with the broader 2050 Africa Integrated Maritime Strategy (AIMS 2050), and contributes meaningfully to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

‎The conference is expected to feature a blend of informative presentations, panel discussions, and focused group engagements, ensuring that all participants leave with a comprehensive understanding of the steps necessary for advancing Africa’s maritime sector.

‎The collaborative approach will help identify key priorities for partnerships, capacity development and financing initiatives.

As Africa navigates the complexities of its maritime future, the conference represents a pivotal opportunity to define a collective vision that embraces innovation and sustainability in maritime governance.

‎Mr. Kpadeh encouraged stakeholders to participate actively to shape the continent’s maritime landscape for years to come.

The AAMA 8th Conference promises to be a landmark event, reinforcing the commitment of African nations to foster a safe, secure, and environmentally sustainable maritime environment.
