A Liberian Woman by the name of Evangeline Mamonie Nosike Fled From Death threats Over Sander society

A Liberian woman has fled from her family home after her sister got Initiated and died from Sande Initiation.

Meanwhile, the lady is seeking for assistance from authorities in Monrovia, She  has fled her hometown following the tragic death of her teenage sister, who was forced into the Sande Society; a traditional group associated with female genital mutilation (FGM).

Evangeline Mamonie Nosike , born December 30, 1994, in Monrovia, lost both parents before tragedy struck again in 2022.

Her 16-year-old sister, Janjay Nosike, was taken into the Sande bush for circumcision without consent.

Despite reporting the incident to police, Nosike says authorities claimed they could not act on

issues involving traditional societies.

One month later, Janjay fell critically ill, Doctors at the Redemption Hospital informed Nosike that her sister had been improperly cut and had little chance of survival. She died on May 5, 2022. Nosike says that when she refused to undergo the same initiation, she was threatened with death, public humiliation, and lifelong shame.

Multiple attempts to seek police protection reportedly resulted in no action.

She continued to receive threatening messages warning that her initiation into the Sande Society  was  unavoidable .

Despite official statements condemning FGM, the practice continues in parts of Liberia

with limited government intervention, Nosike hopes her story highlights the dangers faced by girls still forced into harmful traditional practices.
