The Association of Liberia Professional Secretaries and Clerks Incorporated (ALIPROSEC), widely known as the World Trade Center (WTC) on Gurley Street, has formally appealed to House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon to intervene in its controversial closure by officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP).
ALIPROSEC’s representatives made the appeal during a courtesy visit led by Montserrado County District #7 Representative Emmanuel Dahn.
The delegation expressed deep concern over the impact of the closure on their operations, and the livelihoods of young professionals, who depend on the center for daily income and career development.
Koon welcomed the delegation and assured them that their concerns would be given due consideration.
He encouraged members of the association to remain patient as the House works toward a peaceful and lawful resolution to the impasse.
The closure stems from an August 11 raid by the LNP, during which computers, printers, and other business equipment were reportedly confiscated amid allegations of fraudulent activity.
The operation has sparked widespread criticism from civil society groups, youth entrepreneurs, and lawmakers, who argue that the raid disrupted legitimate enterprises and deepened economic hardship.
In response to a formal communication from Rep. Dahn, the House has scheduled hearings to investigate the legality of the raid, assess its broader impact, and ensure police accountability.
The LNP and the Patriotic Entrepreneurs of Liberia (PATEL) are expected to appear before lawmakers today, Monday, September 8.
