Agriculture Officers Get 52 Yamaha Motobikes -To Boost Agriculture Nationwide

The Ministry of Agriculture has distributed fifty two Yamaha motorbikes to District Agriculture Officers (DOA) and County Agriculture Coordinators ( CAC) from across the fifteen counties of Liberia to boost agricultural activities in the country. Agriculture Minister, Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah, commissioned the distribution exercise on Thursday, February 28, 2025 at the ministry complex in oldest Congo town. Minister Nuetah said the distribution of the motorbikes to the DOA and CAC is a demonstration of President Boakai’s determination to  see agriculture thrive for the betterment of Liberians. During the distribution exercise, Dr. Nuetah also presented four vehicles to four regional agriculture coordinators to enhance thei job they do. Minister Nuetah promised that other regional agriculture coordinators  will receive vehicles when funds are made available by government, and clarified that the vehicles presented to the four regional coordinators  were given to the ministry by a partner. He urged members of the DOA and CAC to take their jobs seriously by supporting government’s effort in reaching the hard to reach farmers across the country. Minister Nuetah indicated that in furtherance of government’s plan to modernize agriculture, Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) will be given to each DOA in order to measure farms for agriculture activities and  map lowlands for rice production. In a bid to motivate the DAOs, Minister Nuetah disclosed that he has had fruitful talks with the Civil Service Agency (CSA) to ensure that they will their receive just salary for the job they do. According to him, no DOA will earn less than four hundred fifty United States dollars as salary, and effective March this year, the DAOs will receive their just salary per the CSA pay grading.

Dr. Nuetah admonished the agriculture practitioners to take up initiatives like developing proposals and programs to develop their individual control areas in agriculture so that government can support them. However, he called for robust monthly output report and intense coordinatoin between and amongst DAOs and CACs. Furthermore, he cautioned them to work effectively to ensure success in the agriculture sector, and warned  that anyone caught in malfeasance will be dismissed.  Mark  Seah, a district agriculture officer from Maryland thanked the MOA for the distribution of the fifth two Yamaha motorbikes to DAOs. “This bike will help me a lot to do my job effectively, ” Mr. Seah said. ” We will use this back to ensure farmers are well trained and monitor to support government agriculture program,” he added. Nunu Shatay, County Agriculture Coordinator for Grand Gedeh County praised the MOA, and said the motorbikes will give them unhindered access to farmers and effect proper coordination. By O’Neill A.R.
