Rumors that former President George Weah has been invited by the President of the United States of American, John Donald trump has been denied.
To say the least, the story concerning the U.S. invitation is not true.
The chief of staff to former President George Weah has denied Weah scheduled with United States President Donald Trump.
Eugene Nagbe told Tuesday night Spoon Talk: “Like I said last night on Spoon Talk that the Office of Pres. Weah will officially inform the public on his activities,” so is from his Chief of Office Staff Eugene Lenn Nagbe.
“In response to multiple queries from media personnel, I wish to clarify that there is currently no scheduled meeting between United States President Donald Trump, and Liberia former President George Weah, individually, or as a member of a FIFA (Federation of International Football) delegation, as reported by Spoon Network.
“Spoon Network is engaged in a political phishing expedition (mission), because given former Pres. Weah’s key role on the FIFA team, and Pres. Trump’s leadership engagement with FIFA for the delivery of a successful World Cup 2026, there is a high plausibility (likelihood) of such meetings occurring as the event draws near,” Nagbe.
Previously, as a sitting president, Mr. Weah was invited to the White House, then by President Joe Biden.
Former U.S. Ambassador to Liberia, Michael McCarthy said, “President Joe Biden will be honored if you will like attending his US-Africa Leaders’ summit in Washington DC.”
McCarthy made the disclosure at the celebration of Liberia’s 175th Independence Day celebration in Monrovia.
On July 26, 2022, during his speech at the Official Independence Day Program, Amb. McCarthy formally extended Pres. Biden’s invitation to Pres. Weah to attend the U.S.-Africa Leaders’ Summit.
Weah Receives Letter of Felicitations from U.S. President
While serving as president, Weah also received a personal letter from Donald J. Trump, serving his first term, on behalf of the American people.
Trump then extended felicitations to Mr. Weah as he assumes his new role as President of the Liberia in 2018.
“On behalf of the American people, I extend my congratulations as you assume the responsibilities of the Presidency of Liberia. I was pleased to send a presidential delegation to Liberia to witness its first peaceful transfer of power in decades from one democratically elected head of state to another. This transition is a milestone for Africa’s oldest Republic, and a testament to the confidence that your people placed in you,” Trump stated in the communication at the time.
The United States President reaffirmed his country’s commitment to the longstanding relationship with Liberia, and pledged his government’s continuous support to peace and prosperity in Liberia.
