A wave of excitement swept through the grounds of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) on Friday, October 17, 2025; as hundreds of jubilant partisans, supporters, and well-wishers gathered in Congo Town for the official groundbreaking ceremony of the party’s new national headquarters.
The colorful event brought together some of Liberia’s notable political figures, including Grand Gedeh County Senator Thomas Yaya Nimely, Grand Cape Mount County Senator Simeon Taylor, Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah, and former District #8 Representative Acarous Moses Gray, among others.
Former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor also joined the occasion, alongside several members of the CDC legislative caucus.
Representative Kolubah’s arrival sparked loud cheers and applause from the crowd, signaling a rare moment of political unity among some of Liberia’s most outspoken lawmakers.
Taking the podium, former President and CDC Political Leader- George Manneh Weah expressed heartfelt gratitude to God, the party’s leadership, and loyal partisans for their unwavering commitment to the CDC’s mission and ideals.
He described the new headquarters project as a fulfillment of a promise made to the party faithful and a symbol of renewal for the CDC.
“To God Almighty be the glory for the great things He has done and the greater things He will do for us,” Weah declared. “The CDC is not in the walls of the structure.
The CDC lives in our hearts and minds. You can break the bricks; you can break the walls; but we remain standing, steadfast in our love and commitment to the ideals of our dear institution.”
In a fiery tone, Weah took a swipe at the ruling Unity Party (UP), vowing that the CDC would rise again. “Liberia will be delivered from those Rescue charlatans and mountebanks,” he said to resounding applause. “We are builders. They break; we build. We lead; they follow.”
The groundbreaking marks a new chapter for the former ruling party as it looks to reinforce its institutional foundation, restore party unity, and reenergize its base in preparation for future political engagements.
