Wai 00h!! So, Ecobank Lie??

“Love and jealousy have no relations to book and degree. Some of us are very tricky…no fun.”

On August 6, 2025, Ecobank-Liberia, reported that a single armed man entered their Sinkor facility, the intent; to steal some money from the bank and run away.

But later in the day as the event unfolded, different versions of the story started spreading out. Some say, the man at the center of the accusation, Emery Johnson, had gone to one of the bank female employees (not named) with ‘love gone wrong confusion, but to rob the bank.’

It is reported that Johnson had previously supported and dated the lady in question against the will of his legal wife as far as under-taking her education expenses at the prestigious Cuttington University, but she allegedly dumped him for another handsome collar employee of the bank.

This account suggests that the bank was lying to cover-up the real story behind Johnson’s illegal entry to the facility with only ‘pepper spray canister’ concealed on him, not gun as was earlier reported.

Meanwhile, officers of the Liberia National Police that quickly responded to the sound of the alarm bell, has also confirmed that Johnson did not carry gun, but pepper spray.

By this, the public and social media users, are now of the shifted opinions that the bank statement lied by covering up the real story behind Mr. Johnson’s entry to bank.

One bigman (a lawyer by profession), who intently followed Wednesday’s saga from the bank, was overheard asking: “Wai 00h!! So, Ecobank lie to shield the truth of the matter.”

“Our women dem can frustrate us bad kina way too 00h!!” one person with vested interest in the incident remarked.

Ecobank establishment

The bank was founded in 1985 to address the financial needs of West African entrepreneurs. The initiative originated from the Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce, aiming to establish a private regional banking institution. Key figures Gervais Koffi Djondo and Adeyemi Lawson played a crucial role in realizing this vision, which was first discussed in Mali in 1972.

Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) was incorporated with an authorized capital of US$100 million, with an initial paid-up capital of US$32 million from over 1,500 investors across West Africa. The ECOWAS Fund for Cooperation, Compensation and Development became its largest shareholder, reinforcing its regional mission.

Different sides of Johnson’s entry saga

The public has duly been informed that Mr. Johnson, a medical analyst at the University of Liberia, was reportedly frustrated by his girlfriend of long relationship.

The girlfriend in question works for the bank as one of the tellers, but had long since threw Johnson’s love for her in the dust bin for another guy, allegedly working with the same bank.

This account, though, yet to be officially verified, it has gathered so much collaborations to the extent that it becoming the “real story.”

One woman remarked: “Love and jealousy have no relations to book and degree. Some us are very tricky…no fun.”

This was later translated to mean that Johnson’s exploit was based on jealousy, but not to arm rob the bank single-handedly in broad daylight.

Other accounts spoke to the same direction of Mr. Johnson, who some legal people said, will not be charged for “armed robbery, but aggravated assault, and or disorderly conduct; crimes that are billable.

Our readers are of the opinions that the bank lied of armed robbery, but love affairs that went wrong.
