The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Liberia National Office has officially released the provisional results of the 2024- 2025 national examinations and announced major curriculum reforms to take effect in 2026. Speaking at a press conference in Congo Town, Saturday August 16, 2025 WAEC Head of National Office, Mr. Dale G. Gbotoe, confirmed the release of results for four key assessments The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), Liberia Junior High School Certificate Examination (LJHSCE), Liberia Primary School Certificate Examination (LPSCE), and the Liberia National Assessment Test (LNAT). Mr. Gbotoe highlighted a steady improvement in student performance at the junior high, primary, and assessment test levels since the introduction of national examinations in 2018. For the 2025 WASSCE, a total of 51,719 candidates sat exams across 379 centers nationwide out of this number, 822 candidates passed at least five subjects, including English and Mathematics, with credit. According  to him, 576 candidates passed at least five subjects, including English and Mathematics, with any grade. He said  37, 081 candidates passed at least four subjects, noting that 970 candidates passed at least three subjects, including English and Mathematics. However, results for 1,944 candidates were withheld due to suspected examination malpractice, WAEC said investigations are ongoing. Looking ahead, Mr. Gbotoe announced that in partnership with the Ministry of Education, 39 new subjects will be introduced in the 2026 WASSCE to give students more academic flexibility and better career-aligned learning opportunities.  Candidates will be allowed to select nine subjects from the expanded curriculum. He also disclosed that certificates for the 2023 examinations have been printed and will be available for collection beginning December 2025, while early registration for the 2026 exams will open in September and run through December this year. Deputy Minister for Instruction,  Amos Fully, praised WAEC-Liberia for what he described as a smooth administration of the 2025 exams and commended President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s  government for its continued support of the education sector. “We applaud WAEC-Liberia’s commitment to maintaining high standards in education,”  Fully said.  “We also encourage school authorities to take advantage of the early registration period to ensure proper preparation for the 2026 exams.”

With the release of the 2025 results and the unveiling of new subjects, WAEC-Liberia reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening educational standards and broadening learning opportunities for students across the country.
