RGCH Team Marks 1 Year Under Dr. Pauline S. Weah-Medeh

The River Gee County Health Team has marked one year of leadership under the County Health Officer, Dr. Pauline S. Weah-Mehdeh.

The Team celebrated progress made in expanding healthcare access and strengthened service delivery.

The anniversary, held in Fish Town on July 3, 2026, brought together health workers, partners, local officials, and community members to reflect on achievements and set priorities for the year ahead.

Since taking office, Dr. Weah-Mehdeh, and her team have centered their work on improving access to quality care, supporting frontline health workers, and expanding public health programs at the community level.

According to the County Health Team, efforts over the past 12 months have increased supervision, and supply support to health centers and clinics in all districts, with a focus on maternal and child health services; regular mentorship, training, and improved coordination with partners to reduce staff burnout and improve retention in rural facilities; expanded outreach on malaria prevention, immunization, sanitation, and disease surveillance in hard-to-reach communities, and closer collaboration with community health assistants, traditional leaders, and local authorities to ensure health messages reach villages beyond Fish Town.

Stakeholders praised the County Health Team for its dedication to the locals.

“This past one-year was about more than the time on job. It is about commitment to save lives and keep our communities healthy,” one stakeholder said.

Partners expressed appreciation for improved coordination, and encouraged continued collaboration to address the remaining gaps in the healthcare system.

Dr. Weah-Mehdeh credited the progress to the hard work of nurses, midwives, clinicians, community health workers, and partners the county.

She said, the team will use lessons learnt from the past year to do more in the coming years.

As it reflects on year one, the River Gee County Health Team says, its focus remains on how to deliver effective, accessible and quality healthcare to all residents.

“Our goal is that no one in the county is too far from care. We will continue to strengthen our facilities, support our staff, and take health services closer to the people.”

The team pledged to prioritize facility upgrades, consistent drug supply, stronger disease surveillance, and expanded maternal and child health services in the coming years.
