The John F. Kennedy (JFK) Medical Center has strongly rejected “misleading social media reports, which connected a patient’s death to the poor placement of a dialysis catheter.
In an official press statement on Thursday, July 9, the Hospital said, such claims are “inaccurate.”
The released further said, as part of it standard dialysis care, all patients and their caregivers receive comprehensive counseling on the proper care of dialysis access.
“They are also instructed to seek immediate medical attention should they experience bleeding or any other complications.”
Cause of Death
The Hospital Clarified that the patient reportedly began bleeding at home on Monday, June 29, “but was not brought to the hospital until Wednesday, July 1, when the patient was presented as an emergency upon arrival. The patient was promptly assessed, underwent the necessary diagnostic investigations, including a CT scan based on her clinical presentation and was admitted for monitoring and treatment.”
“Throughout her hospitalization, the medical team maintained regular communication with her family regarding her condition and the care being provided. Contrary to the allegations circulating on social media, the patient’s death was not caused by the dialysis procedure or the placement of the dialysis catheter.”
The JFK Management revealed that the “patient died from complications related to her underlying medical condition, for which she had been receiving ongoing treatment.”
The release however stated that out of respect for the patient and her family, and in accordance with ethical and legal obligations regarding patient confidentiality, “JFK Medical Center will not disclose additional details of her medical history or treatment.”
They meanwhile, urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified information that may cause further distress to the grieving families, or undermine confidence in healthcare services.
