One-Month-Old-Baby Dies in Fire
A one-month-old baby boy has died in a house fire in Aloha’s Town, Bong Mines.
According to the report, the incident happened on Monday, August 11, 2025. It was first reported as suspected arson, but later ruled accidental.
Police say local authority headed by one Sekou Kamara, called them about the fire around 3:45 p.m.
Kamara is quoted by the LNP as saying that a child was trapped inside the burning house.
A crime investigation team left Kakata the next morning, but arrived in the town around 11:00 a.m.
The victim was identified as Alpha Janneh.
He was the son of Bendu Alpha and her husband, Saku Janneh.
Bendu told police she had just bathed her son and placed him on a bed before sitting outside with relatives.
She said moments later, she heard the sound of fire from inside the house.
Flames blocked the bedroom door, stopping her from reaching to the baby until his end came.
“My husband was in the bush, and our other children were swimming in a creek when my son died in the burning fire.”
Bendu told police an old motorbike was inside the house, but had no fuel.
The family often lit fires in the main house instead of their kitchen, which is farther away.
She could not say what caused the blaze as investigation continues.
Investigators found three power (chain) saws, a motorbike, and a solar panel in the debris.
A 15-member coroner’s jury inspected the scene, but ruled any suspected foul, but said, “the fire was accidental, with no evidence of foul play.” By Emmanuel Degleh (Contributor)
