Nimba District #5 By-election Wins Holiday
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has declared Tuesday’s August 12, by-election day in Nimba County electorial District #5 a holiday. The holiday, according to a release, is restricted only in the district.
This means all business houses, including “cane juice” shops are to remain close until the electoral process ends.
Meanwhile, National Elections Commission (NEC) Chairperson, Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah, has assured residents that all is now put in place for the ‘smooth conduct’ of the representative by-election in District #5, Nimba County.
The by-election is scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Madam Lansanah made the statement on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, during the fourth meeting of the high-level coordination platform on elections, held at the NEC headquarters on 9th Street, in Sinkor.
This marks the last coordination meeting ahead of the District #5 polls in the county.
Henceforth, authorities at the Ministry of Justice, with the United Nations Resident Coordinator to Liberia, Christine Umutoni, and ECOWAS Ambassador to Liberia, Josephine Nkrumah, serving as Co-chairs, oversaw the high-level platform.
Deputy Minister for Justice for Codification, Cora N. Hare Konuwa, chaired the Tuesday session.
Madam Umutoni expressed confidence in NEC’s preparedness and commitment to deliver a credible electoral process.
Those who attended the platform, included NEC Co-chairperson, Counselor P. Teplah Reeves, Commissioners Boakai A. Dukuly, Ernestine Morgan-Awar, a lawyer by profession, Barsee Leo Kpangabi, and Josephine Kou Gaye.
Others were representatives from UN Women, and members of the diplomatic corps.
