‘New’ Gov’t Initiative Launched

By Emmanuel Koffa

The Acting Minister of Local Government, Edward K. Mulbah, on Wednesday, July 1, officially launched the Ministry’s “Taking the Government to the People” initiative in Grand Kru County.

Mulbah, during the exercise, reaffirmed government’s commitment to decentralize, engage citizens, and inclusive developments.

The initiative, was unveiled during a welcome ceremony in Barclayville, was designed to bring government institutions closer to citizens while advancing the implementation of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development and the Local Government Act of 2018.

While addressing county authorities, traditional leaders, youth and women groups, Mulbah said, the initiative reflects government’s determination to ensure that no community is left behind in the national development process.

The Local Government Act provides the legal framework for decentralization, while the ARREST Agenda serves as the government’s roadmap for improving livelihoods, and strengthening public service delivery.

Mulbah further highlighted significant progress in agriculture, the promotion of the rule of law, and the fight against illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse.

He called on the locals to work collectively with government to ensure the successful implementation of development programs, and to promote greater public participation in governance.

Mulbah’s visit formed part of the Ministry of Local Government ongoing nationwide engagement with local administrations to strengthen coordination, monitor government programs and address county-level development priorities.
