Officers of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) assigned in Maryland County have deployed additional men power across ‘tactical bouldering points’ in the county.

The LIS exercise came ahead of neighboring La Cote D’Ivoire general presidential and legislative elections.

Maryland County LIS Commander told this newspaper that the officers have been deployed at all major border points as part of heightened security measures in the country.

Abdul Jallahquay, Sr., told reporters that the move is intended to closely monitor cross-border movements, and further prevent any potential spillover of unrest or illegal migration during the electoral period.

Jallahquay explained that the deployment covers both official and unofficial crossing routes, with officers instructed to work in coordination with local communities, and other security agencies.

“We are taking proactive steps to ensure that our borders remain peaceful and secured,” Jallahquay said, adding: “The LIS is prioritizing vigilance and professionalism during this sensitive time.”

Local authorities have commended the LIS initiative, saying, it will help maintain stability, and safeguard lives and property along the Liberian-Ivorian border.

Jallahquay also heads the joint security in Maryland County. He reaffirmed the Service commitment to national security.

He assured residents that strong border management is essential to peace and regional cooperation.
