The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richards Koon, has promised an improved learning condition for students attending Dixville Public school.
Koon made the assertion when the leadership of the students’ government, on Friday, October 10, paid a courtesy visit to Speaker Koon.
During the visit, the students appealed for assistance to address some of the challenges facing their school.
The students outlined the need for proper bathroom facilities, armchairs, and the plight of volunteer teachers, who are not on government payroll.
In response, Speaker Koon assured the students of his commitment to improve their learning environment.
He also announced that a team of contractors will visit the school on Monday, October 20, to conduct an immediate assessment of the facilities.
Koon underscored the importance of proper sanitation in schools, describing as unfortunate, the current situation where students use nearby bush paths as toilets.”
He promised to prioritize the construction of new bathrooms to ensure a healthy and dignified environment for students.
On the issue of volunteer teachers, Speaker Koon promised to work with authorities at the Ministry of Education to address the status of teachers serving without pay.
