By Samuel Flomo, Jr.

A wave of grief has swept through Du-wolee Township in Kpanyan District, Sinoe County, following the drowning of two male descendants from Nimba County.

The deceased are yet to be identified.

According to local reports, the heartbreaking incident occurred earlier Tuesday, October 21, 2025, in the Panama Community when the two men reportedly got swept away by strong flows of water.

Circumstances that led to the men’s death remain unclear up to press time last night, about 10.

Eyewitnesses say the victims were seen in the high tide struggling for survival before disappearing beneath the current.

The situation has meanwhile, sparked panic among residents, with some blaming sacraments or rituals often associated with “water society.”

Following the men disappearance from the water, several hours later, locals, with the help of community leaders and authorities, discovered their lifeless bodies.

The scene drew a large crowd of onlookers, many of whom, predominately women, wailed as the men remains were brought offshore onto the river bank.

Others are of the opinions that the men drowned due to “poor visibility, and sudden water surges; ruling out rituals.”

Local officials have launched an investigation to establish details surrounding the incident.

Community members have called on government to improve safety around the overflooding rivers and creeks in the surroundings.

Investigation continues.
