House Probes Debee For ‘Impropriety’

The House of Representatives has mandated its Committee on Rules, Order, and Administration to investigate Grand Gedeh County Electoral District #3 Representative, Jacob C. Debee, II.

Rep. is being probed over allegations of “financial impropriety.”

The decision was reached by Plenary Thursday, April 9, during its 1st day sitting of the special session following a formal communication submitted by Nimba County Electoral District #5 Representative, Kortor S. Kwagrue.

In his communication, Kwagrue called on his colleagues to probe statements reportedly made by Rep. Debee during a local radio appearance.

In the communication, Debee reportedly claimed that the Speaker and Deputy Speaker received over US$200,000 in connection with a visit to the Liberia–Guinea border; an assertion that has sparked “serious concerns regarding accountability and transparency within the legislature.”

In response, Plenary acted by forwarding the matter to the Committee on Rules, Order, and Administration for a “comprehensive investigation.”

The Committee has been mandated to thoroughly examine the allegations, and report its findings and recommendations to the full body within the timeframe of the ongoing extraordinary session.

Rep. Kwagrue said, the investigation should be conducted in line with established legislative procedures.

He noted that any individual found liable must face appropriate sanctions consistent with the rules and standards of the House.

This development underscores the House’s commitment to uphold integrity, transparency, and accountability.
It also highlights the importance of responsible public statements by members, particularly on matters that may impact public trust and institutional credibility.

As the investigation proceeds, citizens and stakeholders will be closely observe the process, which is expected to reinforce confidence in the legislature’s ability to address issues of governance and ethical conduct.
