The dream of constructing Grand Kru County’s first modern mini sports stadium, has taken a major step forward.

By that, the county authorities have commenced clearing of the proposed project site ahead of an official groundbreaking ceremony later this year.

The exercise, funded through the County Development Fund (CDF), is being carried out by the Grand Kru County Administration using heavy equipment provided by Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL).

Officials say, preparation of the site marks the beginning of a project that residents have longed for over the years.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports, will undertake the construction phase of the facility.

The official groundbreaking is expected to coincide with the opening of the 2026 National County Sports Meet in November, when the county host part of the premier sporting competition.

Beyond serving as a venue for football and other sporting activities, the proposed stadium will transform the sports landscape by creating opportunities for youth development, talent identification and community engagement.

Residents have meanwhile, expressed the hope that the project, when completed, will stimulate economic activity during sporting events, and encourage investment in accommodation and restaurants.

Once completed, the mini sports stadium will stand as the county first modern sports facility. It would become a lasting symbol of the growing infrastructure development, and commitment to empower the young people.
