Businessman Applauds Lawmakers

A Liberian Businessman, Prince Tamba Nyuma, has commended members of the 55th legislature for approving an increment in the budget for soldiers of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL).

By the increment, AFL’s budget has leaped from a draft proposal of US$600,000 to an approved amount of US$3.5 million.

The increase is part of a supplementary budget that raised total allocations from US$45 million to US$53 million.

“I don’t have issues with the passage of the budget at night, but my concern lies with the increase in the AFL’s budget, which will be used to recruit military officers.”

Nyuma expressed that the expedited approval of the budget raised questions about the transparency and accountability of lawmakers, suggesting that such rapid decisions do not adequately reflect the needs of Liberians.

“While supporting our security forces is crucial, the welfare of all

citizens must remain a legislative priority.

It is important to support our security forces, but we must also ensure that these financial decisions are made with the people’s best interests at heart.” Nyuma advocated for a balanced budgeting approach that considers the broader needs of the nation.

Nyuma has promised to vie for the representative seat in Montserrado County District #1 in 2029.

He used the occasion and extolled President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for “peacefully handling pressing national issues, particularly regarding recent challenges at the Sorlumba Border.”

He highlighted the need for a more community-oriented approach to law enforcement, which he believes is essential to foster trust between police and the communities they serve.
