Burkina Faso Investor Leases 500 Acres In G/Gedeh

Burkina Faso investor, Boubou Sebu, has entered into an agreement with authorities of Grand Gedeh County to lease 500 acres of farmland.

The farmland is located in the B’hai Administrative District. It is being leased for “cocoa cultivation” for 30 years.

The official signing ceremony took place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in the office of Grand Gedeh County Superintendent, Alex C. Grant, at the famous Tubman Palace in Zwedru City, the county capital.

In the leased Agreement, Mr. Sebu will make an initial payment of US$150,000 for the first 10 years.

According to the document, over the entire 30-year period, US$600,000 is projected for the county, which will be channeled directly into the County Development Fund.

Shortly following the signing, many of the residents hailed the agreement. They described it as a “major step to revitalize Grand Gedeh’s agricultural sector, and attract sustainable foreign investment.”

County Attorney E. Wilkins Nah, assured the public that all legal, and environmental safeguards, have been incorporated into the deal to protect local forests, and ensure responsible land use.

Mr. Sebu also expressed gratitude to the Grand Gedeh authorities for their cooperation.

He reaffirmed that the leased land will be used exclusively for cocoa production, with the objective to promote sustainable agriculture; enhance food security, and create employment opportunities in the B’hai District.
