The Bong County Council has approved a significant increase in the county’s fiscal budget, raising it from an initial US$3.9 million proposal to a final approved amount of US$4.9 million following the discovery of additional revenue sources during an extensive review process.

The approved budget was officially submitted to the county administration headed by Superintendent Loleyah Hawa Norris on Friday, May 22, 2026, during a formal ceremony held at the Gbarnga Administration  Building. Receiving the budget on behalf of the Superintendent was Silas Tokpa, who assured members of the County Council that the document would be forwarded for signing and implementation. Speaking at the ceremony, Bong County Council Chairman, Aaron Sackie-Fenlah, disclosed that the increase in the county budget came after Council members identified additional revenue streams during their 21-day budget scrutiny exercise. According to him, the County Council conducted a detailed examination of the draft budget submitted by the county administration and discovered several untapped revenue opportunities capable of increasing the county’s financial capacity. He explained that the newly identified revenue sources created room for an additional US$1 million to be added to the county’s spending plan, pushing the final budget to US$4.9 million. The Council Chairman noted that the approved budget is expected to address several key development priorities across the county, including road connectivity, healthcare delivery, education support, sanitation improvement, and other social development initiatives intended to improve the lives of citizens.

The budget approval has generated optimism among residents and local stakeholders, many of whom believe the increase could accelerate development activities throughout the county, if the funds are properly managed and transparently implemented.

Observers said the increase in the county’s budget demonstrates the importance of rigorous financial review and accountability within local governance structures.

Meanwhile, the county authorities have called for collaboration among communities, local leaders, and government institutions to ensure the smooth execution of projects and programs outlined in the approved budget.

The approved US$4.9 million budget is expected to guide Bong County’s development agenda for the upcoming fiscal period as citizens anticipate visible improvements in public services and infrastructure across the county.
