Montserrado County Electoral District #4 Representative, Atty. Michael Thomas, has formally called for a comprehensive report into the tragic fire incident that claimed the lives of five persons in the Shara Community, Duport Road, in November 2025.

In a reminder communication read during Thursday’s 1st Day Sitting of the Special Session, Rep. Thomas referenced an earlier communication submitted to Plenary on December 1, 2025.

The communication highlighted the devastating fire disaster that occurred on November 14, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of the community’s chairlady, Mrs. Deiode Garnette, her children- Judee Garnette and Isaac Garnette and two grandchildren, Christopher Freemen and Ruth Fleming. He extended heartfelt condolences, noting, “Peace be to their memories.”

Thomas also recalled that Plenary had previously mandated the Minister of Justice, the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police (LNP), the Director of the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS), and the Managing Director of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) to appear and provide a full account of the incident. However, their appearance was delayed due to the Legislature’s recess.

He also said the urgency of the matter, urging that the relevant authorities now appear before Plenary to present an official report on the cause of the fire.

According to him, such clarity is necessary to address the growing wave of speculations, claims, and counterclaims surrounding the tragic event.

The lawmaker noted that the incident has sparked tension and conflict among residents of the Shara Community and the wider District #4, underscoring the need for transparency and accountability.

“As representatives of the people directly affected, we have a vested interest in ensuring that the truth is established and justice is served,” Rep. Thomas stated, calling on the leadership of the House to give the matter urgent attention.

Meanwhile, Plenary has forwarded the matter to its Judiciary Committee, mandating it to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and report its findings and recommendations.
