IMF Delegation Meets Speaker Koffa


The Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Aidar Abdychev, along with a delegation on Monday, February 19, 2024 paid a courtesy call on Speaker  J. Fonati Koffa at his Capitol Building office.  The meeting was characterized by constructive discussions on collaboration and synergies between the Office of the Speaker and the IMF in overseeing activities vital to the economic development of Liberia. According to the House Press Bureau, during the courtesy call, the focus was on establishing modalities to enhance cooperation between the 55th Legislature and the IMF in providing effective oversight of financial and economic matters.  The discussions centered on how the Legislature can play a pivotal role in supporting the activities of the IMF and the Government of Liberia. Speaker Koffa expressed his commitment to fostering a strong working relationship between the legislative branch and international financial institutions, emphasizing the importance of transparency, accountability, and good governance in managing the country’s economic affairs. Resident Representative Abdychev shared insights on the IMF’s ongoing and future initiatives in Liberia and underscored the significance of collaboration with the legislative body for successful implementation.  The discussions explored potential avenues for the Speaker’s office to contribute to oversight mechanisms that ensure sound economic policies and practices. Both parties acknowledged the critical role that effective oversight plays in promoting fiscal responsibility and sustainable economic growth. The meeting concluded with a commitment to continued dialogue and collaboration to strengthen the partnership between the House of Representatives and the IMF. The House of Representatives looks forward to actively supporting the IMF and the Government of Liberia in their shared objectives of economic stability, development, and prosperity for the people of Liberia.
