A pre-dawn transport disaster on the Suakoko–Gbarnga highway, has intensified public concern over the unprecedented rise in unsafe trucking practices.

The situation intensified recently after an Aqua-Life Mineral Water truck overturned near Phebe Hospital facility at about 4 a.m. on Monday, November 24.

The long-haul vehicle, loaded with Aqua-Life products, veered off the road with four occupants on board, including the driver.

While no deaths were recorded, one individual sustained injuries, and is currently undergoing treatment at Phebe Hospital.

The accident has become a stark reminder of the growing dangers on major highways, where poorly regulated commercial trucks continue to operate at risky hours without adequate safety checks.

The wreck has prompted renewed criticism of transport oversight, as many residents believe such disasters are preventable with proper monitoring and enforcement.

Authorities have yet to establish what caused the truck bearing license plate H03938 to crash.

The Liberia National Police has launched an investigation to determine whether mechanical failure, human error, speeding, or overloading played a role.

Monday’s crash adds to a troubling pattern of road incidents involving heavy-duty vehicles, raising questions about the effectiveness of national road safety policies, and the failure of trucking companies to adhere to required safety standards.

As the investigation continues, the public is demanding tougher regulations, routine inspections, and stronger accountability to prevent another avoidable tragedy on the already dangerous highways.
