A major milestone in community-driven agricultural development has  taken place in Gbeapo Statutory District, Rivergee County, as United Youth for Peace and Sustainable Development launched the harvest of 4.5 hectares of lowland rice.

The rice field, cultivated on rehabilitated swamp lowland developed by  the Ministry of Agriculture under the Smallholder Agriculture Development for Food and Nutrition Security (SADFONS) Project, aimed at boosting local rice production and food security.

Speaking at the ceremony, Field Monitor Bayan Mulbah expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Agriculture and partners for the opportunity. “Today, we are proud to officially kick off this lowland rice harvest,” Mulbah said.

River Gee County Agricultural Coordinator Jasper Sheriff Tweh described the harvest as a breakthrough, noting that it intends to sustain outreach and technical support from the Ministry’s County Office.

The 4.5-hectare harvest demonstrates the potential of lowland rice farming in the county and highlights youth empowerment in advancing sustainable agriculture.

Stakeholders praised the youth group’s achievement, indicating that it proves that with the right partnerships, rehabilitated agricultural assets can contribute to food security and local economic growth.
