The Director General of the National Bureau of Concessions (NBC) has called on concession companies, particularly Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL) to align their operations with legal standards, and fulfill their commitments to address workers’ grievances.

Theodore Momo said rather than facilitating concession agreements, NBC finds itself increasingly resolving conflicts, which undermines the primary objectives of the concessions.

At a recent stakeholder’s dialogue in Barclayville, Momo spoke of the need for GVL to address employees’ welfares, and resolve community-related concerns.

He attributed the company failure to adequately handle the matters led to “go-slow” actions that have disrupted operations.

“The stability of concession areas is pivotal for all stakeholders,” Momo said, reiterating that both the GVL Management, and affected concession communities have a shared commitment to foster an environment conducive to the growth and cooperation.

Momo also acknowledged government’s continued commitment to the agreements that had been forged with concessionaires back in 2011.

He reassured stakeholders that the National Investment Commission (NIC) is actively reviewing all concession agreements to assess compliance and effectiveness.

The review aims to renegotiate terms that align the national development objectives, ensuring better accountability and resource management.
