‘Work Until March 31’

-Boakai Mandates NEC Chair

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, has requested Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah continue working until March 31, 2026, though she has resigned her post as chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC).

Boakai formally acknowledged her resignation as Chairperson of NEC.

In her communication to the President, Madam Lansanah stated that her decision to resign her post at the Commission followed consultations with her family, and was guided by a desire to take time off after more than 12 years of service at the Commission, first as Commissioner, and subsequently assuming the chairmanship.

She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Republic, and her great delight for ensuring a smooth transition within the institution.

The effective date for her resignation, she noted, was March 15, 2026.

Pres. Boakai meanwhile, commended Madam Lansanah for her “dedicated and exemplary service,” noted that her tenure significantly contributed to strengthen the electoral framework.

He spoke of the role her leadership played as “vital” in enhancing the credibility, stability, and institutional integrity of the nation’s democratic processes.

While accepting her resignation, the President has requested that Madam Lansanah continue to oversee, manage, and coordinate the affairs of the NEC through March 31, 2026, to facilitate a seamless and orderly transition.

Boakai further indicated that he will, in keeping with the constitution, and applicable statutory provisions, initiate the process of nominating a successor.

Pres. Boakai extended his sincere appreciation to Madam Lansanah for her “invaluable service to the country,” and wished her continued success in her future endeavors.
