The Women Non-Governmental Organization Secretariat of Liberia(WONGOSOL) has lauded President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for appointing more females in key positions in government.
According to the Executive Director of WONGOSOL, Esther Davis Yango, Liberian women are occupying decisions making positions in President Boaka’s government more than past governments in the history of Liberia.
Director Yango made the assertion Monday during an interview with local radio station as Liberia join the rest of the world for the celebration of International Women Day.
According to her, WONGOSOL has been advocating and empowering young Liberian women and girls to be representatives and senators at the Legislature and to also hold key positions at the Executive Branch of government.
She acknowledged that while the government is making efforts to include more women at the cabinet level, there are still rooms to empower women and girls at the local government structure.
Director Yango stressed that Liberian women have qualifications, skills and competencies to manage and supervise any key position in government, noting that women have unique skills in managing things naturally.
She maintained that there is a need for more qualified Liberian women to be at the Legislature, Judiciary and Executive Branches of government to help transform the growth and development of the country.
She noted that in the next five years, they wish to see the next female president of Liberia, adding that since Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf left the presidency, Liberian women should be ambitious to seek the presidency of Liberia.
Director Yango emphasized that the empowerment of Liberian women and girls in the governance structure have been over due and it is about time that Liberian electorates consider electing females at the Legislature come 2029 presidential and legislative elections.
