Woman, 39, Slaps With 5-Yr. Jail Sentence

By Aaron B. Nemah

The 15th Judicial Circuit Court in River Gee County, has sentenced a 39-year-old woman for five years.

She had pleaded guilty to charges of illegal possession and trafficking of narcotics.

God There Johnson of Bartiken was sentenced during the May Term A.D. 2026, proceedings before Resident Judge D. Onesimus Banwon.

She was arrested by the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) on January 15, 2026, at Combat Gate Junction in River Gee County.

Court documents show Johnson was in possession of significant quantity of tramadol, a synthetic opioid linked to substance abuse and addiction.

Authorities estimated the street value of L$1.12 million.

She was charged under the Controlled Drug and Substance Act of 2023, for “unlawful possession, sale, transportation, and trafficking of controlled substances.”

During a hearing on May 19, 2026, Madam Johnson entered a guilty plea freely, and voluntarily confessed to the charges, which the court accepted after confirming it was made knowingly and without coercion.

In its ruling, the court noted the growing threat narcotic drugs pose to peace, security, public health, and youth was so dangerous.

While acknowledging the seriousness of the offense, the court considered mitigating factors, including Johnson’s remorse and willingness to accept responsibility.

Madam Johnson was sentenced to five years at Fish Town Central Prison, with credit given for four months already spent in pretrial detention.

The court ordered the Clerk to issue the necessary commitment documents for immediate enforcement.
