“We’ve Received Dozens Of Complaints; Filed Them With NEC” …Edith Gongloe-Weh By Julius Konton

Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh, the lone female candidate in the just-ended Nimba County senatorial by-election has spoken of irregularities that characterized the process.

While patiently waiting for authorities of the National Elections Commission (NEC) to announced the official result, Edith claims the process was marred by irregularities.

According to her, her campaign team received several dozens of the complains, which she said was filed with the NEC using the proper channels that surrounded the process.”

One of such a complaint, Madam Weh said, has to do with voters’ low turnout, though NEC has ascribed the entire voting process as credible void of confusion, thus commending the people of Nimba.

In spite of the peaceful conduct of the by-election, Edith Gongloe Weh, told reporters that she received lots of complaints from her field polling staffs about some of the irregularities.

Based on the sentiment, Madam Weh claimed that her campaign team has filed complaints already to the NEC using the proper channel and are following the process legally.

She then alleged that at some of the polling centers, her observers were not allowed to enter, “because they had photo copies of the observers’ cards.”

Though Madam Weh did not specify some of her complaints filed with the NEC, she also described the process “so far smooth, especially from where I voted.”

She acknowledged low turnout during the process, but said such a “situation normally associated with the conduct of any by-election.”

“We have heard a lot and more are still coming in, but we will allow the process to take its course,” she reluctantly told reporters.

NEC Chairperson Davidetta Brown- Lansannah acknowledged a number of logistical challenges at several of the polling centers, but attributed that to the ‘hard to reach areas’ which experienced a delay, thus causing the NEC to extend the voting hours, which was previously set from 8: a.m. to 6: p.m. to compensate for the lost time.
