Weah Rallies CDC To Rise Again

In a recent address, former Liberian President and political leader of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), George Weah, officially launched the party’s due payment campaign.

Weah emphasized the importance of party unity and financial contributions from members to strengthen the CDC’s position for future political endeavors.

Reflecting on the party’s narrow defeat in the previous election, Weah stated, “Almost two years ago, we lost an election by a razor-thin margin—less than 20,000 votes. And yes, I conceded—not because I was weak, but because I was strong enough to put Liberia first.” He criticized the current administration, asserting that it has led the country into increased poverty and hopelessness.

Weah called upon CDC members to invest in the party by paying their dues, describing these contributions as “a seed of commitment, a pledge of loyalty, and a symbol of hope.” He underscored the necessity for the party to be financially robust and politically prepared to reclaim leadership in Liberia.

This initiative seems to mirror previous efforts by the CDC to mobilize resources. In November 2022, the party raised approximately US$750,000 for Weah’s 2023 nomination, with government officials contributing between US$700 to US$5,000 each. CDC former Chairman Mulbah K. Morlu emphasized the responsibility of officials to support the party financially, stating, “When they gave you big-big jobs, it is also required of you to pay big-big dues to your party.”

Weah concluded his address by urging all former members who had departed the party to return, emphasizing the need for unity and collective effort to achieve the CDC’s goals. He officially declared the due payment process launched, signaling a renewed focus on strengthening the party’s infrastructure and preparing for future electoral challenges.  By: Ableejaystaff
