WASH Caucus Champion Community-Led Development

A member of the WASH Legislative Caucus, River Cess County Senator, Wellington Geevon Smith, has reaffirmed his commitment to advance WASH services through inclusive, community-driven development.

WASH is water, sanitation, and hygiene.

In Yarpah Town on Sunday, November 16, 2025, Smith praised the Accelerated Community Development Program (ACDP) for prioritizing local empowerment and delivering tangible results in underserved areas.

He pledged continued legislative support to ensure that River Cess remains a key player in national WASH planning and budget decisions.

The tour to the county was aimed at assessing water facilities, and community development projects under UNDP’s ACDP.

Findings from the visit will inform stronger legislative action and push for increased sector support.

The Head of Secretariat of the WASH Caucus, Timothy Kpeh, underscored the need for sustained political will and community engagement to expand services across the country.

Kpeh spoke of how lawmakers have committed additional funds to scale up interventions in River Cess, Nimba, and Grand Kru counties, respectively.

UNDP Team Leader, Stanley Karama, highlighted the importance of citizen participation, saying: “ACDP empowers communities to manage resources and shape priorities.”

Karama announced a new initiative, LEAD, set to launch next year to deepen community involvement.

Meanwhile, community members welcomed the new facilities, noting that safe water access is a major step toward health, dignity, and resilience.
